Charles, Anita, Kelsey & Madison Kruschinska
We are a family owned and operated rabbitry and poultry farm located in beautiful Northern Michigan. Founded in 2011, we were looking for a way to become self sufficient during this uncertain economy. The cost of living has been going up since the market crashed in 2008, and the cost of food in most cases has gone up over 50%, with many food items doubling in price. We started raising Barred Rock chickens for eggs and meat in 2008 to lessen the impact of rising food costs, and have since expanded into other poultry and rabbits.
The longer we stay engaged in this endevor, the more we enjoy raising our own animals and growing our own fruits and vegetables for our dinner table! The difference between fresh and store bought is so great, that we can't stand the thought of having to go to the store for anything! Eggs taste better when they come from pastured free range chickens. Thanksgiving dinner is so much more flavorful and juicy when your turkey is fresh, not frozen. Anita learned how to can or freeze everything we grow so we could enjoy the harvest for months to come before the next growing season. What doesn't get canned or frozen gets made into some kind of bread or pie and the rest is sold fresh at market. Family and friends would come over for dinner or take some of our homemade goods home with them and tell us they wanted more! We had to start growing more just to keep up with family demand!
That is how everything got started! It has been very gratifying to share our country living with everyone we have come into contact with. Hearing how we have helped to make some lasting memories at someones family meal, or the smile one of our rabbits puts onto someones face gives us a feeling we wouldn't trade for anything!
